Expanding Our Impact
Our partnership with Fjällräven and Canoe Ridge Vineyard enables us to offer a number of exciting events for families and urban hikers and engaging seminars focused around introductory hiking skills and techniques for fall season fun. Together, we'll explore our upcoming Mountaineers Books spring release of Discovering Seattle Parks authored by Linnea Westerlind and gain skills from PCT thru-hiker Tami Asars, another one of our authors.
Discovering Seattle Parks
Linnea Westerlind has researched and visited every single one of Seattle’s more than 400 public parks, and now she shares the most fun and intriguing options in Discovering Seattle Parks, a guidebook like no other. Organized by neighborhood, this playful book will keep families, walkers, urban hikers, dog owners, and kids of all ages busy year-round. Linnea is a mother of three boys and has been an enthusiastic hiker, explorer, and traveler all her life. She writes about urban adventure for ParentMap.com. Tami Asars
Tami Asars is a third generation Washingtonian, and a professional writer and photographer. Tami has hiked The Wonderland Trail in sections and as a thru-hiker more than nine times. She has led backpacking trips all over Washington State and teaches classes in backpacking basics, lightweight backpacking, and long-distance hiking. Tami is author of three Mountaineers Books titles Hiking the Wonderland Trail, Day Hiking Mt. Adams and Goat Rocks, and Hiking The Pacific Crest Trail:Washington. Discovering Seattle Parks Events

Offered at The Mountaineers Seattle Program Center, Linnea Westerlind will walk through some of her favorite adventures in Discovering Seattle Parks. This event is designed specifically for members of our youth and family programs, and will feature Seattle's most family friendly parks for children under 6.

Introduction to Hiking Seminar: Presentation at Fjällräven's Seattle Store. New to hiking on Northwest trails? We’ve got you covered! Join Mountaineers Books author Tami Asars as she walks you through tips and techniques to make your adventure fun and enjoyable. Learn about gear and clothing, hiking etiquette, safety, the 10+ essentials, training and passes/permits. Leave armed and ready to hit the beautiful Northwest backcountry! Canoe Ridge Vineyard will be doing a special wine tasting at the event.

Fall Hikes for Autumn Colors: Presentation at Fjällräven's Seattle Store. Fall is one of the best times to hike in the Northwest! Not only have the mosquitoes buzzed off, but the brilliant colors of red, orange and burgundy are lighting up hillsides. Join Mountaineers Books author Tami Asars as she walks you through a few great trail suggestions where you and your camera will swoon over the colorful foliage. Learn tricks for staying warm and dry in colder months and ensure you have the correct 10+ essentials in your backpack for those just in case moments. The vibrant hinterlands await your bootprints! Canoe Ridge Vineyard will be doing a special wine tasting at the event.
Light food and drink will be available. Wine generously donated by our friends at Canoe Ridge Vineyard.
