Last spring, we encouraged you to sign a petition supporting a National Heritage Designation for the Mountains to Sound Greenway. Over 3,000 of you lent your voice to this issue - your signature helped double the support for this designation!
Today, we need your help again at a critical moment in the designation campaign. Senator Maria Cantwell and Congressman Dave Reichert have re-introduced Greenway legislation, but we need to secure a Senate committee hearing this spring for the designation to move forward. A hearing is the next step in National Heritage Area designation to be passed.
The Mountains to Sound Greenway is an outdoor paradise stretching from Seattle to Ellensberg. It includes 1,600 miles of trails, excellent whitewater runs, backcountry skiing and snowshoeing, rock climbing routes, and mountain biking opportunities.
National Heritage Area designation would help the different land agencies in the area to better collaborate on management – from trail maintenance to trailhead parking and educational resources. This would have a significant positive impact for this area that is experiencing increasing popularity and use.
These legislators need to hear from local voices that protecting the Greenway is a priority. Please send Senator Cantwell and Congressman Reichert an email asking for a hearing - it's easy through our online system (which will verify you as a constituent and suggest some language for you to use).
Thank you for sharing your voice to protect the outdoor experience for generations to come.
P.S. Your lawmakers want to hear from you and read what you share, so take two minutes today to tell Senator Cantwell and Congressman Reichert that the Greenway matters to you!
