While it's been a slower summer than usual for our Seattle Branch Climbing Committee and community, we have taught a number of students and enjoyed a handful of socially responsible trips together. Here are a few highlights from our summer, along with an invite to our reunion party and a call to join our committee as a leader:
Virtual Climbers reunion - October 22
We're hosting an online social gathering on October 22 at 6:30pm. This gathering is an opportunity for us to see familiar faces and share stories and photos from the previous year. Think of this gathering as a more informal beta and brews.
Please RSVP, and if you hav photos from your favorite summer trip sign up to share during the reunion.
Speaking of Beta & Brews
Look for upcoming Beta & Brews postings soon! Previous presentations are available online and on The Mountaineers Youtube channel (if you haven't already, give that a follow to see new content when it's posted).
Be our next Climbing Chair
We are looking for an upcoming climbing committee chair to replace me in 2021 AND a chair-elect (to become chair in 2022)! I'll be staying as the immediate past chair for a year to help with the transition, but we need 2 people to join our Climbing Committee leadership team. View the full job description and contact Takeo if you are interested or have someone you'd like to nominate.

Climbing committee meetings are posted on the Seattle Branch/Seattle Program Center Calendar and happen on the first Tuesday of each month at 7pm via Zoom (except November's meeting was scheduled for election night, so we are switching to November 10). Join these meetings to know what's going on with climbing programs. We have plenty of opportunities for leadership.
Instructor and leader recruitment
We're looking for leaders an instructors to help lead small group courses for the following courses:
- Intermediate Glacier Travel (spring snow overnight leaders plus basement rescue sessions for 2 and 3 person rescue scenarios).
- Rock Modules
- Self Rescue practice session coordinator
- Single and Multi pitch Rock Module equivalency coordinator and evaluators.
Please email tesswendel@gmail.com if you're interested in supporting these efforts to be connected with the course leads. We've found that having 1-2 leaders with a group of 4-6 students works really well and is a great way to connect with students passionate about climbing.
