Seeking Proposals: Equity & Emotional Safety in the Outdoors Online Course

The Mountaineers, in partnership with the Mountain Education Alliance (MEA), is looking to develop an online Equity & Emotional Safety in the Outdoors training for our volunteers. We're seeking DE&I (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) curriculum experts to submit proposals for consideration. Please help us spread the word.

About MEA: The Mountain Education Alliance (MEA) is a national partnership of mountain clubs that includes The Mountaineers, the American Alpine Club, the Mazamas, and the Colorado Mountain Club. The founding MEA partners have been working together on national climbing standards for volunteer-led education under the UIAA international system. MEA recently expanded its efforts to include other leader education topics and we're excited to be working together on this course.

Purpose

To support the personal and professional growth of our volunteer leaders, and to help achieve our vision where all people feel a sense of belonging in the outdoors, we are looking for a DE&I (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) curriculum expert to develop an online leadership training, with input and guidance from our staff. The long-term goal is for this training to be required learning for all Mountain Education Alliance leaders.

Budget

The budget is varied based on our ability to secure grants and partnerships. We would like to see proposals:

  • Under $5k
  • Under $10k
  • Under $15k

As a volunteer-led organization that has traditionally relied on volunteers for our curriculum development, we’re excited to collaborate with an external content expert to guide our DE&I curricula. We want to fund the right solution for our organization, and are interested to see proposals at different levels. Feel free to submit for one level or multiple.

Timeline

We committed to finding the right partner to develop this curriculum. We have no firm timeline for this project, though see a high need for this content and hope to have a course released to Mountain Education Alliance volunteers as soon as possible.
