Wow. Yesterday, in the spirit of #GivingTuesday, we asked our community to rally together and fund Mountaineers scholarships for youth, adults, and families in need of financial support. Today, we are overwhelmed with gratitude for your generosity - and we have incredible news to share!
We started the day with a $20,000 goal, which will provide 75 scholarships to help members and volunteers of all ages learn new skills, expand their support networks, and experience the wonder and joy of our natural landscapes. By the end of the night, you helped us not only reach our goal, but exceed it. In total, more than $29,000 was raised in support of our community of budding recreationists and future conservationists.
These scholarships offer individuals the ability to find comfort and connection through the outdoors. Thank you for making stories like these possible:
“I started Tacoma’s Branch Basic Alpine Course (BAC) in 2020, which was ultimately cancelled due to COVID-19. I was finally able to complete the course in 2021, tackling my first glacier and rock climbs while balancing my family life. In addition to what I learned during the course, I also gained the confidence to plan more family hikes and camping trips in the PNW. Even with the pandemic, our experiences in and around WA have shown us that this is a welcoming place that we want to make our permanent home.
Without the scholarship, funded by your generosity, I would not have been able to take the course - plain and simple. The impact of your support is two-fold: 1) BAC provided the skills, knowledge, and relationships me and my family need to explore and appreciate the natural beauty of Washington; and 2) My BAC experience encourages me to keep learning within the Mountaineers and to share best practices with others while encouraging them to explore all our region has to offer. In the long run, your generosity inspires me to support The Mountaineers and other worthy causes once I am in a position to pay forward the benefits I’ve received. Thank you!”
Thank you for all you do to support the health and wellbeing of our community. No matter who you are, where you live, or what you give, it all makes a difference for the people and places we care about.
