Mountaineers have been enjoying the lands and waters of the Pacific Northwest and beyond for 110 years, and it's our long-term aspiration to be thriving for another 110 years. As we look toward Vision 2022 - our next strategic plan - we felt it was time to put our core values on paper.
Considering we've been getting folks outside for over a century, it's unusual that we didn't already have core values established. Our mission - to enrich the community by helping people explore, conserve, learn about, and enjoy the lands and waters of the Pacific Northwest and Beyond - has remained relatively unchanged since our founding, and so we asked our staff, board, and volunteer leaders to help us define our core values.
What we found was that our community agreed on the five tenants of The Mountaineers core values: adventure, advocacy, community, education, and volunteerism. Along with our Mission Statement, these core values will act as the foundation of our next strategic plan: Vision 2022.
Core Values
adventure
We are bold explorers - driven by imagination, outdoor challenge, and the spirit of discovery.
advocacy
We protect the outdoor experience - wild places depend on our powerful voice for conservation and responsible access.
community
We provide opportunities for all - a diverse and inclusive outdoors inspires unity, respect, and passion for the places we love.
education
We share knowledge - empowering others to safely and responsibly pursue outdoor activities.
volunteerism
We foster connections - developing leaders who continue our legacy of outdoor education, integrity, and action.
