Earth Day is this Sunday, April 22, and we have several ways for you to show your appreciation for Mother Earth this weekend. Join us for a stewardship activity, train to be a trail crew leader, and help us champion our low impact skills while you’re getting outside! Check out all the event details below.
Stewardship
RIALTO BEACH | Apr 21
Join hundreds of volunteers removing marine debris from the beaches while enjoying this wild and remote section of Washington's coast.
Shadow Lake Nature Preserve | Apr 21
Learn about and preform restoration in a beautiful and complex wetland system.
TWIN RIVERS RANCH | Apr 21
This 133-acre piece of paradise protects the mouths of Cranberry Creek and Deer Creek, both of which are salmon bearing streams. After years of human impact, we have planted thousands of native plants, expanding the riparian buffer surrounding the creeks. Join us in maintaining these plantings by removing invasive vegetation that threatens their growth.
Lord Hill Park | Apr 22
Join the Everett mountaineers for trail maintainence work at a favorite local park.
Become a Trail Crew Leader!
Join the Everett Lookout and Trail Maintenance crew up in Lord Hill for a day of leader training. This training will set you up to lead your own crew at the upcoming National Trails Day in June or another stewardship outing. Training will take place at Lord Hill Park. Learn more and sign up below!
Join the Stewardship Challenge
This year the Olympia Mountaineers is challenging Mountaineers members to spend a day in service to our remarkable public lands. Learn how you can join the challenge, document your service, and play a vital role in caring for our public lands. Learn more about the challenge in our recent blog.

Low Impact Skills
If you’ve taken any of our classes recently, you may be familiar with our Low Impact Recreation skills videos and the Low Impact Recreation Travel badge. At The Mountaineers, we believe responsibly exploring the outdoors is an essential piece of the human experience. Our Low Impact Recreation Skills are designed to be used in tandem with other technical skills you learn along the way, like tying knots or using an ice ax for self-arrest.
If you head out on the trails this weekend, show us your smartest Low Impact Travel Skills and use the hashtag #mountieslowimpact on social media! Whether you keep your group size to a minimum, camp on a durable surface, or traipse through mud and snow in order to avoid widening the trails, let others know you’re actively working to protect the wilderness for future generations.
