Next week, tens of thousands of people across Washington will join in a regional grassroots fundraising movement: GiveBIG. Early giving is open now; here are three ways you can give back to The Mountaineers community during this season.
#1 Take on the Stewardship Challenge
Sign up for one day of working on trails or other public lands. This year the Olympia Branch has invited all Mountaineers members to join in their annual challenge and help preserve and restore the lands where we recreate. No experience is necessary to make a difference, and your efforts can earn you your Stewardship Badge!
#2 Advocate for the outdoor experience
Ask your lawmakers to pass America’s Outdoor Recreation Act, which was recently reintroduced in Congress. This act will help protect outdoor recreation, expand access, create new parks, designate new bike trails, protect bolted climbing, and help land managers collect visitor data that shapes how public lands are protected for years to come. We are especially excited to support permit system improvements that will reduce barriers for people to experience the outdoors through Mountaineers courses and youth programs.
#3 Give to promote outdoor access for youth and adults and conserve our natural world for generations to come
Your GiveBIG donation funds youth outreach programs, volunteer leadership development, conservation education and advocacy, need-based scholarships, and more. Plus, a generous donor has offered to contribute an additional $10,000 if 100 people make a GiveBIG donation of $25 or more. Your participation today will have an outsized impact!
GiveBIG officially starts on May 2, but early giving is open and the countdown starts now. This grassroots giving event helps build and celebrate the kind of Washington that we believe is possible. For us, it means that everyone has the chance to access, enjoy, and steward our natural world and experience the transformative power of being outside.
