Website Testers Wanted - Will Trade Testing for T-shirts

In May 2014, we launched this website—yes, the very one you are looking at right now. We learned a lot in the last few years and now that we've grown, it's time to make sure our website navigation serves us well. We're seeking volunteers to help test options for improving how people navigate our website to find the information they need.

Background

In short, we set out to launch a new website that simplified and improved as many processes as possible. This website was built in the Plone content management system, designed as a constantly evolving information hub for our community. A lot of work went into the initial website design—you can read all about it on our Technology Blog. 

Before launch, our testers participated in rigorous feedback loops to fine-tune the usability of mountaineers.org. Now, we’re working on improving our website’s navigation to make sure features we added since the initial launch are "in the right place", and to test suggested improvements to make things easier to find. We are also bringing Mountaineers Books, our publishing division, into our Plone platform to share resources, reduce the need to maintain two separate websites, and improve access to information for all of our online visitors.

Volunteer Criteria

We are looking for 15-25 volunteers to test new navigation options for our website. We need people who are both familiar with The Mountaineers and who are members of the outdoor community. Ideally, we want people who know that we have a nonprofit publishing division, but who have never visited our Mountaineers Books website, www.mountaineersbooks.org, or have not done so recently. To participate you need:

• To be an outdoor enthusiast! You need not be a Mountaineers member.
• To own a computer, laptop or desktop, that is 5-years old or newer.
• To have a reliable internet connection.
• The ability to download a small file of testing software.
• 60-90 minutes of free time in the next 2-6 weeks
• A desire to provide helpful, honest feedback.
