In Memory of Susan Alford
Thank you for considering a gift in honor of Susan Alford— leader, lover of mountains and wild country, and beloved friend to many. Susan passed away on the sunny morning of Wednesday, March 9, 2022 in Olympia, Washington.
With her truly endearing personality, along with glowing blue eyes and signature smile and giggle, Susan’s intelligence, passion for adventure, kindness, and caring always stood out far beyond her petite size.
Susan joined the Mountaineers in 1984, and quickly became an accomplished scrambler while also enjoying hiking, skiing and backpacking. Continuing forward, she graduated the Basic Climbing Course in ’87, Intermediate Snowshoeing in ’94, Intermediate Alpine Climbing in ’08, and was a Crag Rock leader 2003-2013. Susan was also a Human Resources consultant to the Mountaineers Board of Directors and an asset to various committees in the Club while accomplishing and enjoying climbing adventures and summits around the world.
Susan was a kind and patient mentor to many, an exceptional human being, and warmingly memorable to be in company with. She remains always in the hearts of we who loved her.
You can visit Susan's obituary page to read or leave comments or photos where her family will see them on the "Tribute Wall".
