Sun Mountain Lodge, 9am
This trip is part of the Winter Trails Day Jan. 8- 10 event in the Methow Valley. This is about a five-hour drive from Seattle, assuming good road conditions.
We will do a loop from the Sun Mountain Lodge, out on the Black Bear Trail and returning on the View Ridge Trail. If we are lucky enough to have clear weather, we will have some great views out over the valley. This will be a moderately challenging snowshoe outing, suited for individuals who have done some snowshoeing previously. Be prepared to be out in the snow for three hours, with suitable clothing (layering system), food, and water.
Sun Mountain Lodge rents snowshoes, and also sells the $5 Methow Trails One-Day Snowshoe Pass (required). (An MVSTA ski pass is also valid on the snowshoe trails.) Ski poles are recommended but not required.
Guests (non members of the Mountaineers) as well as members are invited to sign up in advance for this trip. For visitors either call the Mountaineers Member Services on 206-521-6001 or visit www.mountaineers.org click on "join" on the top right hand corner, then select GUEST ADULT FREE and follow the steps.
This trip is part of the "Celebrate Winter Trails in the Methow" Jan. 8- 10 event. Visit the event listing for full details: www.mountaineers.org/wintertrailsday This URL also includes lodging suggestions. The Methow Valley is roughly 250 miles and 4 - 5 hours from Seattle. Make a weekend of it an stay in Winthrop or elsewhere in the Methow Valley on Jan. 8 & 9. There will be lots to do including Nordic ski trips on the 9th and 10th.
