Meet at the foot of Westlake Avenue North pedestrian overpass stairs shortly before 6pm. These are the Galer stairs. Suggest you park south of the overpass where spaces are free and well lit after 4pm.
This up-and-down walk is a slight variation on Walk #10, East Queen Anne, in Jake & Cathy Jaramillo's 2013 Seattle Stairway Walks, Mountaineers Books. The guide calls for ~3.7 miles. Metro Transit Bus Route 70 provides excellent service. And Metro 62 is handy, too
Our route takes us west up the linked Galer Stairs from Lake Union near the highest elevation then past Old Queen Anne HS. On our way north we pass perhaps the most ornate house north of the ship canal. We drop back towards Lk Union on a short dirt path, then pass under Aurora Ave in a wonderfully mural rich tunnel. We return to the Galer Stairs start on protected West Lake sidewalks.
Total steps down ~300 and total steps up ~476 (but not all at once).
Dress for the weather and the evening. It will be dark and some travel is on city streets, so headlamps and reflective clothing are advised.
