This is a strenuous trip, but it's the 9 mile round-trip winter route, NOT the 17+ mile summer route. And it doesn't mean going very fast. But with 5600' elevation gain and 100% off-trail, you must be fit and ready. For more info see: http://www.summitpost.org/ruby-mountain/552394 and/or look in the Peggy Goldman's scramble route books. We will be hoping for clear skies and (where it may still exist) nice consolidated snow! If the weather forecast looks nasty the trip will be changed to something involving less prolonged and distant. Snowshoes will be needed. If they are, participants will have to have snowshoes with good traction - such as the MSRs. Tubular-style snowshoes will not be sufficient. I'll be e-mailing a map with the route once signup closes.
Please note that if the weather forecast looks bad right before the trip - this trip will go to Grindstone Mt (slightly less elevation gain, more distance, and 'way more trail).
