Michelle Peterson
Michelle joined The Mountaineers in 2020 to get a discount on the maps and books, after having known about the club most of her life growing up in Seattle. That led to taking Wilderness Navigation with Foothills, which inspired her to sign up for Scrambling, which then led her to the Basic Alpine Course and Winter Camping. Michelle helped instruct for the Wilderness Navigation, Scrambling and Basic Snowshoeing courses. In the past year, she’s become both a Hike and a Scramble leader, and served as a safety rep. Michelle has also have been offering weekly yoga practices for Mountaineer’s members. She has just recently taken on the chair for the Foothills Snowshoe Committee.
Michelle grew up in both the greater Seattle area and Western Colorado. The high school she went to had an Outward Bound style program. Her favorite places to scramble are on the shoulders of Mt Rainier and SE Utah Canyonlands. Michelle and her husband John, also active with the Foothill’s Climbing community, live in old, downtown Renton. Michelle has been teaching yoga since 2009, opening her own yoga business in 2016, as a part time job. For her full-time career, Michelle is a custom heavy equipment metal fabricator and has worked for the City of Seattle for the past 31 years. Before that, Michelle built logging trucks and worked on mining equipment in Black Diamond.
