Introduction to Trail Running Racing - Ancient & Dusty Lakes

Ancient Lakes 25k course with a Vizsla!  There are 15 mile and 8 mile options for this run.

  • Moderate
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 15.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,400 ft
  • Pace: 12-15 minute miles

Please ready to go at 8:30 am at the Ancient Lakes Lower Trailhead.

  • I will have my Vizsla, who is an accomplished runner.  He will likely be excited and maybe a little talkative to start but will settle in nicely and run alongside of us.  He will be off leash for a fair bit of the run.  Please be comfortable with that if you sign up.
  • This route is composed of 3 distinct loops, all of which bring us back to our cars.  That means we won't have to carry a ton of water but will have to be disciplined about not lollygagging at the cars.  This will be great practice for managing yourself at an aid station.
  • There is a 15 mile (the 25k race course) and an 8 mile option (first two loops of the 25k course).  If you choose the 8 mile option you simply don't start the third loop.  See routes below.
  • We will not be stopping for lunch during our run.
  • Our all-up time (running + any stops we need to take) will be 15-minute miles or less so it ought to take us 4 hours +/- to complete the run.
  • It's the desert out there so it could be hot.  It will definitely be exposed as there are no trees.
  • There should be at least one porta potty at the TH.  Might be a good idea to bring some TP just in case.
  • You will need a Discover Pass.
  • This is the full route on Strava:  Ancient Lakes 25k (14.75/1400) | 14.7 mi Running Route on Strava
