WCR - Winter Mountaineering - Alpental Ski Area

Snow Anchors & Belays. Extreme cold weather resulted in rescheduling activities to Sunday only and no overnight camping. 2nd day activities regarding snow anchors/belays are now planned for Lane Peak Fieldtrip in February.

8am Alpental 

Snow Anchors

  • Learn and practice traditional snow anchors, like vertical pickets, mid clip pickets, and deadman pickets
  • Review of bollards
  • Learn/practice using non traditional anchors, like skis, backpacks, water bottles, etc

Belaying

  • Learn/practice methods of belaying a follower, including butt-axe belay, stomper belays

Snow Shelters

  • Practice building overnight snow shelters
