COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Intermediate Glacier Travel module will introduce you to steeper snow and glacier routes, and provide the skills for planning and executing an intermediate-level glacier climb.  In addition, the course covers the basics of solo, two-person rope team self-rescue on glacier climbs.

Please do not purchase equipment until after the first lecture

  • 2 pickets with runner or cable
  • 2 single runners
  • 2 double runners
  • 25' of 6mm nylon cordalette
  • Guide style belay device
  • Rescue pulley
  • Hero Loop

Recommended

  • 2nd 25' 6mm nylon cordalette (5.5 spectra, 7mm nylon acceptable)
  • Climbing Rope (rated for half or twin)
  • Microtraxion or equivalent
  • Ice Screw, 17cm
  • Ice Axe with hammer head
