On this field trip, we'll spend a 3-day weekend exploring the Hoh River valley in Olympic National Park. We'll camp along the shores of the Hoh River and take an optional day hike up towards Hoh Lake on our free day. Registration priority given to Colin & Ellsa's mentor group; other students welcome to join if space is available.

Rain or shine

This is a beginner’s backpacking trip, giving students the opportunity to try out their gear and apply the skills they've learned in the B3 course.  We’ll be exploring the Hoh River valley in Olympic National Park.

On our first day, we'll hike from the Hoh Rainforest visitor center to the Olympus Guard Station camp (9 miles, 690' gain), where we'll set up our basecamp for our 2-night stay.  On our second day, folks can either rest in camp or take an optional dayhike up towards Hoh Lake (7.5 miles, 2800' gain).  On our third and final day, we'll pack up and return to the trailhead at Hoh Rainforest visitor center (9 miles, 350' gain).

We'll hike at a moderate pace (1.5-2 mph), and take breaks for snacks, views, and pictures.
