Backpacking Building Blocks Student-Only Backpack - Pacific Crest Trail: Chinook Pass to Norse Peak

This field trip will give B3 students the opportunity to try out gear and new skills on an easy overnight backpack with an experienced mentor. Priority registration given to Alina and Luis' group. Other B3 students can request Leader's permission to join starting on April 1st.

Meeting on the Chinook Pass Trailhead @ 7:45 AM

NW Forest Pass required.

We will hike through the PCT, detour to summit Norse Peak and head back and down to camp at Basin Lake.

This hikes through a section that may be mostly dry. Be prepared to hike about 8-9 miles without water sources between Sheep Lake and Basin Lake.

Day 1: 11.2 mi 2500 ft of gain

Day 2: 9.6 mi 2000 ft of gain


Trip cancellation criteria

  • Leader's illness
  • Heavy precipitation leading to > 1 inch per day
  • 30+ mph winds.
  • Over 100F weather forecast. I would pass out there :)
