This is a beginner’s backpacking trip, giving students the opportunity to try out their gear and apply the skills they've learned in the B3 course.  We’ll be exploring the Buckhorn Wilderness in the Olympic National Forest.

On our first day, we'll start hiking at the Tubal Cain trailhead, collect water at Copper Creek, and continue up to our dry camp at Buckhorn Pass (7 miles, 2700' gain).  After setting up camp, we can do an optional dayhike to the summit of Buckhorn Mountain (3.2 miles, 1200' gain).  On our second day, we'll pack up and continue south in the shadow of Buckhorn Mountain, tackling Marmot Pass and then descending to Boulder Camp (3.5 miles, 500' gain).  We'll set up camp and then do an optional dayhike to Constance Pass (7.5 miles, 2200' gain).  On our third and final day, we'll pack up and return to the trailhead (10.5 miles, 1500' gain).

We'll hike at a moderate pace (1.5-2 mph), and take breaks for snacks, views, and pictures.
