March GoHike Pacing Urban Walk: 2 - 4 miles, 0 - 750 feet gain (optional). - Discovery Park

Urban Walk through Seattle's largest city park. We will walk 3.2 miles through old growth forest with a 140ft elevation gain. Urban Walks are outings of at least two miles or longer that take place on city or suburban streets, parks, or greenbelts.

  • Easy/Moderate
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 3.2 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 170 ft
  • Pace: 1.5 - 2 mph

Meeting time: 8:45am, hike will start promptly at 9:00am
Meeting place: Discovery Park Visitor Center, 3801 Discovery Park Blvd, Seattle, WA 98199.

Since Discovery Park is very popular, the parking lot near the visitor center fills up quickly. You can carpool, take the bus (metro #33), have a housemate drop you off, or get there by rideshare (Uber or Lyft).

Once everyone arrives, we'll have introductions and go over safety items, plus goals of the pacing hike. We will leave promptly, so please don't arrive late. This Urban Walk may count toward the monthly requirement of one trip activity a month for the GoHike Course.

We will be walking in a clockwise direction on the loop trail. I will lead a variety of pace speeds so you can get an idea of what is comfortable for you. I will be checking in with each participant throughout the hike to make sure you aren't having any problems and/or answer questions.

Since weather can change, I  recommend dressing in layers and carrying a pack where you can stuff items if you get too hot (or retrieve extra clothes if you are too cold). Rain is always a possibility, so be prepared.
