June Hikes: 3.5 to 6 miles, 400 to 1,500 feet gain - Deception Pass State Park

An easy and very scenic 6.1 mile route with 800 ft of rolling gain, epic views of our NW islands and waterways. This hike may count toward your monthly required GoHike course June hike.

  • Easy, Easy/Moderate
  • Easy
  • Mileage: 7.6 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 854 ft
  • Pace: 1.5-2.0

The hike will begin at Cranberry Lake which has a large parking lot. Discovery Pass is required. Carpooling is strongly encouraged. We will meet and orient ourselves at 11 am and begin hiking shortly thereafter. Please arrive about 10-15 minutes early to use the restroom and get your gear on/together if needed.

MEET at 11 AM in the Cranberry Lake parking lot. Details will be provided in the Hello GoHiker email.

We will hike at an easy to moderate pace (1.5to 2.0 mph) so as to enjoy the beauty  around us and to keep a generally active pace. We will adjust based on group needs, stopping for clothing adjustments & bio/snack/view breaks as needed.

We will stay together as a group throughout the trip, making sure you can see someone ahead and behind, and stopping at all trail junctions—there is a network of trails throughout the park.

(Pouring rain and high winds will cancel the trip.) We'll have a relaxed break at Goose Rock summit so be sure to bring any lunch/food/beverage you enjoy and something to sit on if needed and to keep you dry in case of drizzle.

Becky's leadership style:
I love to enjoy the views, so if you enjoy occasional photography and pausing to learn about and enjoy the little (or big) sights, this trip is a great fit. I have more of an easy, naturalist style, so the hikes tend to be drawn out for this reason. Consider this a day trip and we will conclude the activity in the very late afternoon, likely by 4-5.
