Welcome to our 2018 MeadoWatch Season! This is the 6th year of this project and we are excited to be able to run the program this summer after our very successful crowdfunding campaign (thanks again to those of you who donated or helped with our campaign!). We look forward to getting out to the Meadows, and we hope you do as well! If you would like to join us this summer, please register for one of the orientations (links below).
All new volunteers are required to attend one of these orientations to participate! We prefer returning volunteers attend, but if you cannot attend an orientation you may 'self-orient' by watching the training video once we post it, as long as you feel comfortable with data collection, and have ideally attended an orientation date in the last two years (2016, 2017). Your registration will allow us to send you an email with information about programmatic changes and with the necessary waivers attached, which we will need back from you before we can send you 2018 materials (data sheets and pamphlets) and you can participate.

Please register ASAP to reserve your spot! Due to space limitations on our trail and in our the rooms where we conduct orientations, we have to cap the total number of volunteers we can accommodate (we're aiming for 200 total, 50 more than last year). We will close registrations once our cap has been reached. Additionally, your registration is critical to our planning, as it will allow us to print out and bring the right number of volunteer forms, datasheets & pamphlets for each to each orientation.
About meadowatch:
The goal of MeadoWatch is to engage Mt. Rainier National Park visitors in scientific research to understand how climate change will influence the timing of flowering and seed production in the iconic high mountain meadows pictured above. MeadoWatch uses a Citizen Science approach, and volunteers are essential to the success of our program. Every summer, participants hit the trails of Mt. Rainier to record wildflower phenology (the timing of flowering, fruiting and seed production) of some of the most beautiful alpine wildflowers in the world. We use this information to understand which climatic factors trigger flowering and seed production, and how climate change may alter the the timing of seed production. Ultimately, this information can be used to aid resource managers at Mt. Rainier National Park in making conservation and management decisions.
