Kitsap Branch Climbing Program
WELCOME TO THE KITSAP BRANCH CLIMBING PAGE!
We have a great community of climbers on the peninsula and we are always excited to have new climbers join us. We offer two alpine climbing courses which will give you skills you need to travel safely on glaciers, steep hard snow, and vertical rock.
BASIC ALPINE CLIMBING
The Basic Alpine Climbing Course is a program of classroom and field instruction designed to teach new climbers the skills and experience required to safely climb most rock, snow, and glaciated mountains in the Pacific Northwest. Skills taught include belaying, rappelling, rope handling, 5th class rock climbing, snow climbing, glacier travel, back-country camping including on snow, guidance on gear purchases and conditioning, and more - lots more.
Course graduates are eligible to participate in basic club climbs, alpine scrambles, winter snowshoe trips, the intermediate climbing course, the crag climbing course, specialty climbing seminars, and many other activities offered by The Mountaineers.
INTERMEDIATE ALPINE CLIMBING
The Kitsap Mountaineers' Intermediate Alpine Climbing Course is a technical and leadership development course that will teach you the techniques necessary to safely lead climb on rock, snow, and alpine ice. Along the way you will master the knowledge and skills to organize and lead basic-level climbs and to participate in intermediate-level alpine, rock, and ice climbs.
