Climbing Self-Rescue I Field Trip - Green Mountain: School Rock

Practice skills learned during Classroom Sessions 1 and 2 to conduct small party rescue scenarios that will require the employment of raising and lowering systems, movement on rope, and scene control.

Meet at the Gold Creek Trailhead for Green Mountain at 8:00am. Cars are required to display a Discover Pass.

The Kitsap Climbing Self-Rescue I module teaches small party (2+ rope teams) self-rescue. The Field Trip will employ knowledge and skills learned during Classroom Sessions 1 and 2 to conduct small party rescue scenarios that will require the employment of raising and lowering systems, movement on rope, and scene control.

The following activities will be covered:

  • Assessment of Anchors
  • Anchor Construction
  • Raising System Construction and Employment
  • Lowering System Construction and Employment
  • Pick-off of an injured climber from above.

Each student will be required to demonstrate entry level competency in these activities in order to be an effective member of a small party self-rescue.

Standard rock climbing equipment including:

  • Harness
  • Helmet
  • 6-8 locking carabiners
  • 4-6 non-locking carabiners
  • 4-6 alpine draws (can employ non-locking carabiners listed above)
  • Cordelette
  • Progress Capture Pulley (Optional)
  • Lightweight Ascender (Optional)

Bring the gear you would have on your harness and we will apply it to the problems. You rescue with what you have. Climbing shoes not required.
