The Kitsap Climbing Self-Rescue I module teaches small party (2+ rope teams) self-rescue. The classroom sessions will present and develop individual and group skills fundamental to self-rescue on rock, glaciers, and ice and present theory related to mechanical advantage and anchor forces. The emphasis of the field trip will be small party self-rescue to include raising and lowering systems as well as individual movement on rope.
This is an advanced level climbing course. Completion or significant progress in the Leading on Rock Course is a prerequisite. By the time of the course students should be proficient at building and evaluating anchors. Students will be required to demonstrate entry level proficiency of the classroom topics during the field day.
This module is part of the Kitsap Branch Intermediate Course Package. Preference will be given to Kitsap Intermediate Students.

Standard rock climbing equipment - harness, helmet, 6-8 locking carabiners, 4-6 non-locking carabiners, 4-6 alpine draws and a cordelette. A Progress Capture Pulley, Lightweight Ascender, and a Purcell prusik (shorter leg prusik) are very useful for many situations. Bring gear you have and we will apply it to the problems. You rescue with what you have on your harness,
