MOFA is a 32 hour course offering essential safety and wilderness first aid skills for those who enjoy climbing, hiking, and other wilderness activities. This class satisfies requirements for Basic Climbing, Alpine Scrambles, and Leadership courses. The MOFA profile certificate is good for three years, the Base Medical WFA certificate for 2. MOFA builds prevention and basic first aid skills using the Seven Steps and Base Medical procedures to help you effectively respond to trail emergencies with the gear you carry. You will learn essential Leadership skills to respond to a medical emergency in the back-country. Hands-on outdoor practice with your gear is a key part of the class- up to 8 scenarios. You'll respond to scenarios based on actual mountaineering incidents and instructor experiences. Outdoor practice happens rain or shine, so be ready with clothes and a pack ready for a day on the trail. Include extra clothing, trekking poles, your current first aid kit and the rest of your 10 Essentials. Come prepared to have fun and be challenged while learning MOFA.
Leader Notes: Two weeks before start of class you will be issued a link to an 8 hour on line self-study learning module. This module will have to be completed before you may attend the rest of the class. Withdrawal after this link is issued will be subject to a $95 withdrawal fee. In person classes are Saturday Oct 12 and Saturday/Sunday Oct 19/20. The class on the 20th will include full moulage scenarios, hands on tests of your Step 4/5 patient assessments, and access to the final mandatory on line exam. Upon satisfactory completion you will recieve a WFA certification & badge (good for 2 years), and a MOFA profile badge (good for 3 years). It is highly recommended to renew your CPR badge (with rescue breathing) annually, though we will not be offering our own CPR class this go round.
Current Olympia Branch Leaders with 2 or more Trip Leads in the last 12 months may take the class at a discounted rate of $100- contact the course leader before registering for your discount code.
