As you learned in the class, you will need shelter, sleeping system, cooking gear, water filtration and food storage.  NOTE: If you are a new backpacker, and lack a piece of equipment, we may be able to supply it to you for this activity, please contact Regina or Anna prior to this weekend, and we will help you find equipment to borrow or something for you.

Preparation

-       The purpose of this field trip is to give the students an opportunity to demonstrate their backpacking skills.  Instructors will be working with you to evaluate your skills and provide feedback.

-       Each backpacker will need one breakfast, and one dinner, plus trail snacks.

-      There is no bear wire at the campsite, so either be prepared to hang your food, or bring a bear canister.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Choose our tent sites.  Setup tents and campsite.  Prepare dinner, cleanup and stow food. Gather group for evening program.

Day 2: Prepare breakfast and cleanup.  Break camp and stow gear in the backpack. Take a short hike, and return to parking lot.  Should be done by 1 pm on Sunday.

-       We must be finished and out of the group campsite by 1 pm on Sunday.  I estimate that we should be finished with the hike, and back to the parking lot by noon on Sunday.

-       Mountaineers activities are run by volunteers who share their skills and love for wild places voluntarily – they are not professional guides

-       When you register for an activity you are responsible for choosing a trip within your capabilities, selecting suitable clothing, and carrying The Ten Essentials

-       Drivers are an important resource.  Bring some money to reimburse your driver, if you are in a carpool.
