Classroom Session - Olympia Friends Meeting House

We will learn about winter hazards and ailments and how to avoid them, how to travel safely winter 10 essentials, ski equipment, clothing, what to bring in your pack, trail etiquette and where to ski.

Olympia Friends Meeting House, 3201 Boston Harbor Road NE, Olympia, on left going north just past Squaxin Park. Doors open 8:30. Class starts at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 4:00 p.m.

All-day session with a lunch break.

The morning session will be shared  with the Olympia Branch Basic Snowshoe students, covering material applicable to both winter sports. During the afternoon session, we will split to cover material more specific to skiing.

During the morning we will cover winter 10 essentials, cold weather ailments and first aid, winter recreation etiquette, contents of a winter day pack and an introduction to avalanche awareness. In the afternoon, we will break into small groups for hands-on demos of ski equipment, clothing and outerwear, and daypack items/10 essentials and an overview of the field trips, where to ski and a Q&A.

If you plan to use your own skis for the field trip, please bring skis, boots and poles so we can ensure they will work for you.
