Meeting time is 9:30.
There is no fee for launching/parking.
There are porta-potties at the launch.
This clinic will cover the basics of kayak sailing in light wind conditions as an introduction to this fun activity. We will cover the following:
- Sail set up on the kayak
- Deploying and stowing the sail
- Safety - rope management, wind forecast, rescues
- Sailing basics - sail handling and points of sail
- Practice in light wind.
We will rig the sails at the launch, but keep them folded on the deck as we cross the Columbia River to Sandy Island. At the island we will do a beach talk covering the first 4 bullet points above. Then we will go out and practice sailing out of the shipping channel to the south and west of Sandy Island.
Expect to be back at the launch by about 3:30pm.
Required Equipment
Sea kayak equipped with sail is required.
