Join us in our Wilderness Skills for Families series where you will come together with other families to learn the basics of Navigation, First Aid, and Knots! Families will get together once per month and learn a variety of skills through fun interactive workshops, which include:
Navigation: Parents will break free from Google Maps as they learn how to build a cognitive map using geography to get oriented. This will include being able to read and understand maps as well as the the most basic use of a compass. This will take place on Tuesday, MARCH 22nd from 6:00-7:30 and is targeted to navigation impaired adults and youth over age 8.
* Adult and older youth participants can follow up by signing up for Olympia's Navigation Course
First Aid: Families will learn to use the supplies that can be found in their individual first aid kit to manage the most common minor injuries or dangers on the trail. Using your family first aid kit, you will learn what you have that works and what you need to add for a first aid kit suitable for families. This will take place on Tuesday, APRIL 26 from 6:00-7:30 and is best for youth ages 6 and older and their parents and is highly interactive.
Knots: Families will learn the basics of rope and how to tie some of the most useful knots. By rotating through a variety of real-life scenario stations, you will not only gain confidence in how to tie knots, but how to use them in different situations. This will take place on Tuesday, MAY 24th from 6:00-7:30 and is best for youth ages 8 and older and their parents.
