Junior Mac Rock Climbing - Mountaineers Tacoma Program Center

Weekend trips for Jr MAC youth and their families to get out, practice their climbing skills, and enjoy the beautiful outdoors.

  • Easy

We will meet at the Tacoma Program Center at 9 am and climb/ practice skills until 9am. 

9-9:45 Bouldering games (warming up while people float in) 

9:45-10:00 Climbing Demo with Questions (we will talk about safety, commands, and gear) 

10:00-11:00 Belay/ climbing on top rope lessons

11:00-11:45 Knot tying and additional activities if Junior MAC has some fast learners

11:45-12:00 Talk about future trips/ goals students have and debrief 

Skills include: 

  • Figure 8 knot and follow through 
  • Belay with an ATC + a device of choice 
  • Climbing movement basics 
  • Knot tying (figure 8 on a bite, bowline, EDK, friction hitch's, Clove hitch, munter hitch, double fisherman, Girth Hitch) 
  • additional activities: Rappelling and Prusiking 
  • how to coil a rope properly!

  • 10 Essentials
  • Small First Aid Kit
  • Personal Rock Climbing Gear (If you own some)

*All necessary rock climb gear for the trip will be provided by The Mountaineers.
