Community Practice Session - Mountaineers Seattle Program Center

This practice session will be at the Program Center and we will be meeting at Goodman B/C. We will be hosting a Practice Session from 9-11am for those looking to polish skills before take the upcoming Intermediate course. This will be followed by the Basic Canyon practice from 11am-3pm

Practice for those looking to take the Intermediate course 9 - 11am

Basic Practice session to follow from 11am-3pm

For those looking at taking the upcoming Intermediate Course, this is a great time to hone in those skills to build on them in the course.

We will have stations set up to practice the following skills:

  1. Vertical Movement: Ascending, Conversions, Passing Knots
  2. Rigging: EMO, MMO, unlinked bolts, replacing webbing on Y-hang anchors
  3. Indirect Rescue: rope cutting
  4. Traverse Lines: self-belay and team belay
  5. Anchor Management: rig, descend, and retrieve

Technical Practice Sessions typically include targeted skills designated by the leader(s) as well as space for participants to practice their choice of technical skills. \

Technical Practice Sessions are a peer learning environment. No formal training is provided, and participants must have the pre-requisite training to participate. Participants are encouraged to bring books or materials to reference.

  • Harness
  • Helmet
  • Descender
  • Ascenders
  • Foot Loop
  • Dynamic Cowstails
  • Rigging gear (Eight Device, carabiners, others you'd like to practice with)
  • Gloves (optional but recommended)
  • Other personal canyon gear (sewn slings, VT prusik, progress capture pulley, etc)
  • Lunch/snacks
  • Headlamp (even at the program center, you may need to help clean up in the dark)
  • Layers appropriate for the weather

If the clinic is at an outdoor location, you may also need to bring (check with leader):

  • Extra water (or filter)
  • Extra layers
  • Wetsuit
  • Canyon shoes
  • First Aid Kit
  • Emergency 10 Essentials Kit
