Community Practice Session - Mountaineers Seattle Program Center

Skills practice session for all members of the Mountaineers canyoning program.

This practice session will be held at the Seattle Program Center - North Plaza, from 9am to 1pm. We have indoor facilities booked as a backup option in case of bad weather.

We will have stations set up to focus on the following skills:

  1. Vertical Movement: Ascending, Conversions, Passing Knots
  2. Releasable Rigging: EMO, MMO, unlinked bolts
  3. Rigging As Anchor Manager: Setting rope length, creeping the rope, rappelling, retrieving
  4. Traverse Lines: self-belay and team belay
  5. Webbing Anchors: water knot, slings, redundant webbing

Technical Practice Sessions typically include targeted skills designated by the leader(s) as well as space for participants to practice their choice of technical skills.

Technical Practice Sessions are a peer learning environment. No formal training is provided, and participants must have the pre-requisite training to participate. Participants are encouraged to bring books or materials to reference.

Mountaineers equipment will be available to borrow for the practice session. Simply show up and we will get you the equipment you need for the day.

Please bring any equipment that you already own, and layers appropriate for the weather. The North Plaza in October is often COLD!
