- Modularization of our Basic and Intermediate courses is being explored. A new committee is being formed. The Climbing Committee has no fundamental objections to this concept but it was recognized that modularization will require a lot of work. The committee will start by looking at other organizations (e.g British Mountaineering Council) that already offer climbing modules.
- The Climbing Committee is looking into granting equivalency to graduates of other climbing organizations (BoeAlps, Mazamas, etc.).
- There is concern that too many climbs are pre-filled before sign-up opens, especially at the start of the climbing season. There are a number of reasons, including:
1) SIG leaders are committed to ensuring their students are able to complete their required climbs.
2) Not enough climbs are being offered. Many current climb leaders are not active.
3) Some climb leaders are wary of students they no little about. Concerns both about fitness and skill level.
- The Climbing Committee will be looking at ways to re-energize all of our climb leaders, as well as recruiting new leaders.
- New Climb Leaders - Erica Cline, James Templeton, and Radka Chapin.
- The Climbing Committee will next meet the first Tuesday in September (at 7 pm).
