Surprise Lake Trailhead Directions

From Monroe, drive east on Highway 2 to the small town of Skykomish and continue for another 10 miles. After you pass the well-marked Iron Goat Interpretive Site on your left, drive another 0.3 mile and take an unmarked right.

Follow this road for 0.2 mile through the old railroad community of Scenic, though nothing remains of the town but railroad tracks. Cross the tracks and immediately turn right, parallel to the tracks, following a dirt road for 0.3 mile.

You will come to a small parking area which can hold at least six cars, and another similar parking area just beyond it at the trailhead. There are no facilities at the trailhead, but there are good restrooms back at the Iron Goat Interpretive Site.

Northwest Forest Pass required for parking

Details will be emailed to registered participants a few days before the hike. We will be hiking for about 7 hours including brief stops for views and snacks.

We may encounter snow and blowdowns.  I will be monitoring trip reports and weather and may need to adjust our trip.
