CHS 2 Hike

Field trip: Conditioning Hiking Series

CHS 2 Hike - Thunder Mountain Lakes

CHS hike led at a CHS 2 pace (2.0-3.0 mph)-- we'll be starting from the Tunnel Creek trailhead, up to Trap Pass, and then over to the Thunder Mountain lake overlook. There are a couple of poorly marked talus field crossings, so hikers should be prepared to cross those slowly and carefully!

  • Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 14.2 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 3,800 ft
  • Pace: 2.0-3.0 mph

Hikers who want to carpool will meet at the Bothell Park & Ride by 6:30am to consolidate into cars and leave by 6:45am. Carpoolers plus anyone else will meet at the Tunnel Creek trailhead 8am, getting boots on trail as soon as possible after that.

This is a challenging but beautiful out and back hike. Portions of the trail are poorly marked, with crossings over talus fields (but no exposure). Much of the hike is on rocky terrain, so sun protection, water, and your wits. If conditions aren't appropriate, we'll re-route to Surprise lake and back, giving us about the the same distance and elevation.
