Active hikers/backpackers and other club members interested in becoming a new hike leader are invited to participate. This hands-on 2.5 hr. workshop provides experienced hikers or backpackers information to help them become an effective hike or backpack leader for the Mountaineers. This seminar is a prerequisite (along with a mentor hike/backpack and committee approval) to becoming an official hike or backpack leader for the club, and prospective leaders from any branch can get credit for this seminar toward their leader certification. Presented in an informal Q&A format, learn about hiking trip standards, recommended reading resources, outdoor leadership scenarios w/group breakouts, and an overview of the mentor leader program. We will review how to create a hike activity and complete activity reports on the club website. The workshop is open to all Mountaineers members who are interested in becoming trip leaders, but please signup online so we can anticipate group size.
