Details to follow once registration closes. Route location may change depending on river and weather conditions.
Our intended route is from the DFW launch off Ben Howard Road to the park in Monroe.
On this outing we will paddle a slow moving river, gaining more skill in handling packrafts in a variety of venues. We will practice swimming skills such as the safety position and back-ferrying, and swimming at a ferry angle across a class I current, throwing a rope to a swimmer, and catching a rope in the water for rescue. We will practice paddling skills such as ferrying across a slow moving current, holding station, boat spacing, drawing away from a parallel boater. We will practice mock rescues, both self-rescue, partner rescue and team rescue. We will practice reading the river to identify and avoid common hazards such as wood, bridge pilings, boulders, and catching eddies.
