This optional clinic is for new or returning instructors of the Seattle Intermediate Snowshoeing Course field trip who want to review/refresh their skills and discuss ways to teach them effectively.

The clinic consists solely of a half-day hands-on field trip.   Experienced instructors will be on hand to review techniques and share ideas on how to effectively teach them to others. The primary objective is to review and practice ice axe technique.  As time allows we will go over other topics as determined by questions from the participants.

January and February are busy times for our volunteer instructors, and we plan to keep this clinic as short-and-to-the-point as possible.  Though we can't commit to a precise schedule, we are going to try to be done by lunchtime.  The tentative schedule is as follows:

  • Assemble/review the day/hike in - 1.5 hour
  • Review/practice - 3 hours (rough estimate)
  • Hike out -  45 minutes

Clothing and Gear: Come dressed and equipped for a day of snowshoeing, including ice axe and helmet. If you do not have these, let the activity lead know and they will bring extra to the trip. Because we will be doing a lot of self-arrest practice, we suggest wearing older pants if you have them and bringing a spare dry shirt and gloves.
