This workshop should be considered as an introduction to trad climbing. Students will also need to practice trad climbing through mock leads & feedback on their placements on outdoor trips to become competent trad climbers. Placing gear and trad/crack climbing in general is a skill that can take years to master. MAC student should understand that attendance at this workshop does not guarantee the opportunity to lead trad routes on trips. It may require enrollment in MAC over multiple years to build that level of competency.

Prerequisites: All skills workshops throughout the year including climbing 101, lead climbing, anchors/cleaning routes, rappelling, and multi-pitch.

Students interested in pursuing trad climbing are encouraged to attend all the available trad workshops. Attendance of at least three workshops is a prerequisite for leading trad routes at venues such as Leavenworth or Squamish/North Cascades on the summer trip. Remember that is a basic requirement and attendance does not guarantee access to these opportunities.
