Climate Change Speaker Series: Climate Change in the PNW: What's Happening, What's Going to Happen, and What to Do About It
- Mon, May 3, 2021 from 07:00 PM to 08:00 PM
- Carbon Footprint Reduction Committee
- The Mountaineers
- iCal
Climate change is an issue on many people’s minds, yet it can feel complex to talk about. What does the most up-to-date science tell us about what will happen to the landscapes, ecosystems, and recreational resources we love in the PNW? And do I even want to hear about it? In this presentation, we’ll have an honest discussion about climate change and what it means for outdoor recreation and the places we love. We'll also discuss why this is an important issue for outdoor enthusiasts and brainstorm practical suggestions for how to do something meaningful about climate change as a Mountaineers member. Jason delivered a similar presentation at the 2019 Mountaineers Leadership Conference and returns to share this information with a wider audience.
Speaker: Jason Vogel, Deputy Director of the University of Washington Climate Impacts Group (CIG)
About the Climate Change Speaker Series:
The Mountaineers Carbon Footprint Reduction Committee is excited to announce a Climate Change Speaker Series to help our community learn more about the climate crisis. Climate change is an issue that’s on many people’s minds, but it can be overwhelming. In this series, you’ll learn from Mountaineers members and authors about our current climate reality, exciting new science about thawing permafrost, and how climate change will affect the local PNW landscapes we love.
Join us in April, Earth Month, to learn how climate change will affect people and wild places in the Pacific Northwest and beyond - and how you can make a difference. Presentations will be one hour with time for a Q&A after. All events are held via Zoom and open to the public. Join for one event or the series.
