Climate Change Speaker Series: Climate Reality 2021
- Tue, Apr 20, 2021 from 07:00 PM to 08:00 PM
- Carbon Footprint Reduction Committee
- The Mountaineers
- iCal
Extreme heat waves, droughts and floods, wildfires, hurricanes, and other climate-related events are accelerating at a truly alarming rate, even over just the past few years. This environmental form of “slow violence” disproportionately affects vulnerable people around the world. Ensuring a just future will require swift systemic change. This talk offers an introduction and overview of climate justice through a “rapid fire” one-per-slide presentation highlighting dozens of recent case studies of climate injustice happening around the world today, and asks three key questions: Must we change? Can we change? Will we change?
Speaker: Dr. Sunny Remington Doucette, Mountaineers member and Environmental Chemistry Instructor, Bellevue College
About the Climate Change Speaker Series:
The Mountaineers Carbon Footprint Reduction Committee is excited to announce a Climate Change Speaker Series to help our community learn more about the climate crisis. Climate change is an issue that’s on many people’s minds, but it can be overwhelming. In this series, you’ll learn from Mountaineers members and authors about our current climate reality, exciting new science about thawing permafrost, and how climate change will affect the local PNW landscapes we love.
Join us in April, Earth Month, to learn how climate change will affect people and wild places in the Pacific Northwest and beyond - and how you can make a difference. Presentations will be one hour with time for a Q&A after. All events are held via Zoom and open to the public. Join for one event or the series.
