An Evening with Full Circle Everest
- Mon, Aug 7, 2023 from 06:00 PM to 09:00 PM
- Seattle Program Center
- The Mountaineers
- iCal
In 1963, the first American expedition reached the summit of Everest. That same year Dr. Martin Luther King delivered his historic “I Have A Dream” speech. It took 40 more years for the first Black climber to summit Everest. In 2022, the Full Circle Everest expedition made history as the first all Black team to summit the highest mountain on earth.
Inspiring and shedding light on the disparity that still exists for the Black community in the outdoor space, the group made history, doubling the number of Black climbers to reach the summit of Everest. Their historic expedition will continue to inspire the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts, educators, leaders, and mountaineers of color to continue chasing their personal summits for many years to come.
Join Full Circle Everest Expedition Leader, Phil Henderson, and team member Rosemary Saal for a presentation on their historic climb at the Mountaineers this Monday, August 7th. Prior to the event, there will be a community social hour with Phil, Rosemary, and representatives from local volunteer groups working to increase access to the outdoors for communities of color.
