Everyone has heard of Mt Everest, but not everyone knows where it is, or who the people are that live near it. Erika Klimecky has traveled to Nepal several times on various adventures which have allowed her a unique window into the country of Nepal and its people. As a photographer and writer, she co-owned and ran Seattle Backpackers Magazine. That post ultimately gave her the opportunity to serve as the photojournalist on a non-profit global awareness program which took her up the Everest Highway in Nepal (her first trip), embedded as the photojournalist for a mostly Nepali team. While steeped in the culture, she made deep friendships and fell in love with the Sherpa culture, and has returned to engage further through volunteer projects and cultural immersion, as well as touring the mountains and other lesser-known areas of Nepal. Her photo tour will combine storytelling, imagery and culture of Himalaya and Nepal, giving you enough inside knowledge so you can plan a trip of your own and appreciate it more when you get there.

General sections/categories she will talk about:

  • Trekking and climbing
  • Other outdoor adventure
  • Cultural adventure
  • Cultural Immersion through Volunteer-based tourism
