Second Ice Field Trip - Mount Baker Lower Coleman Seracs & Glacier
Glacier Field Trip 4 (Alternate): Introduction to Alpine ice practice. Location: Lower Coleman seracs, Camp Mirkwood. This field trip is an introduction to climbing steep, hard alpine ice of the type found on typical Cascade ice climbs, alpine climbs, and some glacier climbs. During the field trip you will learn to use ice screws, learn to climb with ice tools, learn the footwork and cramponing needed for steeper ice, practice steep ice climbing movement, practice mock leading and leading grade 2 and grade 3 ice, test your limitations on grade 4 and grade 5 ice routes (top roped) and undergo assessment swinging leads with a partner on a grade 2 ice route.
