Field trip: Lookouts and High Places

Lookouts and High Places July Hikes - Hannegan Pass

**Trip initially open to Lookouts and High Places Day Hiking Series students. Trip will open for registration to all Mountaineers 7 to 10 days prior to the hike date.**

  • Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 10.4 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 3,100 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 6,200 ft
  • Pace: 1.8-2.2

The plan is to meet at the Hannegan Pass trailhead at 7:45 AM on Sunday the 14th for a quick hike meet-n-greet and be on the trail by 8 AM.

Carpool if you are able and coordinate amongst the other participants.  I'll be driving from Tacoma and may be willing to take on up to 3 passengers that I could pick up/drop off from the Ashway Park and Ride located at  16327 Ash Way, Lynnwood, WA 98037.
For all drivers: ensure that you have a valid Discover Pass.  All passengers: bring plastic bags for muddy boots and wet clothing in consideration of drivers.  Current Federal mileage reimbursement rate is $0.67 / mile.  So for every 10 miles, reimburse your driver $6.70 roundtrip.
A change of clothes, additional food and drink may also be a welcome comfort after the long hike and before the long drive home.
The objectives for the hike are:
  • Have fun and enjoy each other's company.
  • Return to the trailhead safe and sound.
On this trip we expect to move continuously as a group at a moderately steady pace with at least one 5 minute rest break every hour/1,000 feet of elevation gain until we reach our destination where we'll have a 15-20 minute rest break for lunch, before returning to the trailhead.
Participants with plans of becoming a Hike Leader are encouraged to apply for the Assistant Leader position.  This is not a passive role and you will be expected to help manage the group and activity.  EMAIL ME FIRST BEFORE REGISTERING FOR THIS POSITION.
A "Welcome Hikers" confirming email will be issued to the roster no less than 72 hours before the activity with finalized details.
