Open Water Session - American Lake
Cold water session for the Sea Kayak Basic Course. You will learn basic strokes and practice the rescues learned previously in the pool.

Open water sessions will take place from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm at Harry Todd Park on American Lake.
This session will take place rain or shine. Please be prepared for cool, wet weather with plenty of dry layers. Dry suits are required and may be rented from Kayak Academy if you don't have one. An extra rain coat, with hat and gloves to put on at lunch is beneficial.
High energy snacks, a hearty lunch, and warm drinks are also needed.
Sunday is a shorter day on the water in order to wrap up the class. We usually go to the Ram restaurant in Lakewood. All students and instructors are invited to go with us.
Required Equipment
Single Sea Kayak at least 14' long, with bulkheads or float bags at both ends. It must have perimeter deck lines. Also must have paddle float, pump, Coast Guard approved PFD, and spray skirt. Rentals can be arranged with Kayak Academy and will come with all the above mentioned gear.
DRY SUIT is required. Rentals can be arranged with Kayak Academy and comes with additional neoprene boots and a hood.
