  • Mileage: 8.0 nm
  • Maximum Wind: 15 kts
  • Maximum Waves: 2 ft
  • Maximum Currents: 1 kts
  • Pace: slow to moderate

Pomeroy Park boat launch, Port Orchard.  Launch at 11.

Note; this is being held over a portion of Memorial Day weekend, so please don't sign up if this weekend isn't open to you. Also, we are booking camping sites well in advance, so if we get cancellations we will lose money.  Thanks.

This will be an overnight clinic, in relatively benign conditions, teaching principals that you may apply to the conditions of your choice.  We will cover basic kayak camping equipment (vs car camping), use of dry bags, how to pack your boat for proper trim, what do you do about water and meals, launching and landing a loaded boat, and how to perform rescues with loaded boats.

Plan is to launch, paddle across to the park, and set up camp.  We will discuss "stuff" as requested.  On Sunday we'll paddle around the Island and return back to the launch site, practicing rescues along the way. Clinic will be held rain or shine, but not if wind expected to be over 15 mph when paddling. If raining, we'll be able to discuss kayak camping in the rain as well!

We will have a Zoom on-line meeting about a week in advance of the trip to discuss equipment so you will have time to purchase anything you might need. Please contact leader directly if you have any questions, I'm here to help, and I'm retired with nothing to do!

This clinic may be utilized as a student paddle at leaders' discretion.

We have reserved 3 sites next to each other, with up to 3 tents each site. The clinic fee includes the shared cost of the camp sites.

Please, no alcohol or recreational pharmaceutical use on the trip.  Thanks.
