Crag Climbing Course
DESCRIPTION OF SKILLS
The holder of this badge has successfully completed our Crag Climbing Course and/or has demonstrated proficiency in these skills:
- Rock climbing, leading and swinging leads on mid-5th class rock
- Constructing belay anchors using SRENE principles, including hanging belays
- Placing passive and active protection so it will hold a fall
- Constructing multidirectional anchors
- Using slings to manage rope drag and minimize movement of protection devices
- Rappelling using a device and a rappelling using a carabiner brake system, including self belay using an autoblock
- Mountaineering Oriented First Aid (Graduation from a MOFA course or equivalency)
- Route finding
- Reading topographical maps
- Training/conditioning techniques
- Social, environmental, and political issues related to cragging

- Participate in Crag Rock Climbs
- Teach at Rock Climbing Field Trips
- Enroll in our Advanced Multi-Pitch Experience Course
- Test out of the Intermediate Alpine Climbing Course Rock Field Trips
- Attend Global Adventures Rock Climbing Trips
HOW DO I GET THIS BADGE?

Complete our Crag Climbing Course, which requires that students demonstrate competence in the course contents and satisfactorily complete at least three crag climbs; at least one of the climbs must be multi-pitch.
EQUIVALENCy
The Crag Climbing Course Badge could be granted to members who have applicable experience and can demonstrate proficiency in the relevant skills. To connect with an equivalency coordinator at your branch, contact info@mountaineers.org.
